Bastrop Parole and Probation Compared

Probation, called community supervision in Texas law and agency materials, is imposed by a court instead of or after a jail term. Bastrop County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, or CSCD, administers local probation. Parole is conditional release from a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison sentence after a Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles decision. Bastrop Parole Decisions Are Administrative

Texas does not conduct formal public hearings for each parole or mandatory-supervision case. The Board review process is a rolling administrative review. Parole Division identifies cases before eligibility, an Institutional Parole Officer interviews the person and prepares a summary, and a three-member panel votes in sequence. Two matching votes decide the usual case. A quarterly Board meeting is public policy business, not a calendar of Bastrop County individual cases.

Decision codes need careful reading. FI-1 authorizes release when eligible. FI-2 points to a future month or date. FI-R codes add a program or other condition. Release under supervision comes with enforceable terms. Conditions may concern reporting, travel, programs, court payments, contact limits, or other case-specific duties. The actual order or release certificate controls. A violation allegation is not the same as a final revocation. A parole warrant can lead to return to county custody while the state process continues. A probation court may issue a warrant or conduct a revocation proceeding under the court cause.

IVSS has two distinct layers. IVSS-Counties covers county custody and supervision information, while TDCJ IVSS covers state custody, parole, and mandatory supervision. State registrants may receive notices about supervision warrants or action and a return to custody. Such an alert should be saved with its time, then checked against TDCJ and the office. An older release alert remains true for that old custody episode even if a later warrant caused a new booking.

How Bastrop Supervision Ends

Supervision can end through completion and formal discharge, a court order, expiration of the controlling term, revocation, or another case-specific action. The word “released” is not enough. A person can be physically outside a jail yet remain on probation, parole, mandatory supervision, or federal supervised release. Likewise, a court disposition does not show the time a jail completed release processing.

Build the final record from matching sources. For probation, use the Bastrop judgment and later court entries, then confirm with CSCD. For parole or mandatory supervision, use TDCJ status, the Board decision, and Parole Division. The Texas Government Code Chapter 508 supplies the parole and mandatory-supervision framework. Eligibility under Section 508.145 is not a release promise, and Section 508.149 includes mandatory-supervision exclusions and review rules.

When physical release from the county jail is also in doubt, request the jail register or booking-out record from the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. The release record can show the recorded date, time, authority, and transfer disposition, subject to lawful redaction. Compare that record with the court case and the supervision source. This three-part check separates release from one custodian, transfer to another, and the later end of supervision.
